Mostly this is completed in vocational schools. In technical jargon, this is called full-time education , which stands in contrast to a normal training in a company.

The school vocational training can be carried out as a day class, as it is known from a conventional school class, or to attend as an evening school extra-occupational. Normal education usually consists of part-time and practical training in a company or company. This is called combination training. The apprentice attends the apprenticeship training center in order to learn practical skills and work-related work processes.

Parallel to this, the vocational school is visited. This usually takes place in a weekly rhythm. Similar to a dual study program, normal education is therefore a dual system : attending a vocational school and providing company-based training is a prerequisite for successful completion.

School education

For full-time education, the focus is on attending school in order to achieve the training goal. Many occupations with a school education require internships and / or recognition years in a training company. These take place per week or as a block over weeks or months. A trainee goes through exactly the reverse process as in a normal combined training.

Does a school education qualify as vocational training?

In addition, combined vocational training is regulated nationwide and training content is identical throughout Germany. Exams take place in front of the IHK or other chambers. School education is usually a matter of the state and therefore not generally recognized nationwide. Exceptions to this are, for example, some master classes, which also allow the training objective to be attained without having to work in full-time school lessons.

You can choose from state-public and private vocational schools. In some professions, the schools are affiliated with educational institutions. This is the case, for example, with hospitals, which for the most part have their own vocational school, where additional qualifications can be achieved in school education.

In addition, a distinction is made between basic education and vocational training . Basic education usually takes one to two years of school education. Vocational training, however, takes between two and three and a half years. The school education ends with the passing of written as well as practical or oral examinations.

Is there money for a school education?

While compensation is paid for combined vocational training, a pupil is not paid in school education. Exceptions can be found in the health and elderly care sector, if the school education is linked to a training contract of a hospital or a nursing home institution. Here, the trainee is paid a salary during school education.

For private vocational colleges, there are usually even school fees in Germany, which the trainee himself has to bear.

In most cases, no compensation is expected during school education. Nevertheless, costs such as livelihood, school supplies and, where appropriate, school fees accompany the school education, so that funding must be considered in advance.

Child benefit in school education

Until the age of 18, the family allowance is used to pay the child benefit to the parents. In addition, there is a right to child benefit when the child is in the first vocational training. A claim for payment exists until the end of the training.

School education and promotion by Bank

Students can hope for government support and apply for Bank. Whether and to what extent the grant is granted depends on several factors:

    • Residence with parents or single living
    • Income and maintenance of parents
    • Own income over 450 euros
    • Maximum eligible age 30 years
    • Over 30 years old only after downtime due to illness, pregnancy or care of relatives
    • It is the initial education

An apprentice is only entitled to Bank if he no longer lives with his parents. The amount of the Bank during a school education depends on the parents' income and amounts to a maximum of 504 euros (maximum basic amount). A student Bank does not have to be refunded after completion of the school education, as is the case for example with a study. For students, Bank repayments are part of their funding.

Tip: If you obtain Bank, you will receive a GEZ exemption for your school education. For this you only have to send a proof to the contribution service.

Funding through education loans

An educational loan is a loan that can be taken for school education. It is granted by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, or KfW for short, and can also be applied for in addition to the Bank. Loan amounts between 1,000 and 7,200 euros are possible. One-time payments of up to 3,600 euros are intended for high expenses, such as school fees or expensive acquisition costs. The repayment takes place via monthly installments plus interest.

Training loan for a school education

Financing school education without Bank or having to do it without funding from the job center requires other forms of funding. One way to provide financial support for a school education is to take out a loan.

This form of funding for school education is tied to a personal income. This means loans for trainees are given by banks and savings banks, but the borrower has to dispose of income. Bank and child benefit do not count towards income . Working with a second borrower is one way to increase the chances of a positive loan application.

The benefits of loans for trainees are low interest rates and small monthly installments. The latter allows trainees to keep their financial burden in the eradication low. In addition, Jake Barnes' loan is a solution for 30 days, when money is needed quickly and at short notice to bridge the gap.

Self-employed financing through a side job

In addition to school education, the student is allowed to pursue a part-time job. If state subsidies are granted for financial support, the side job can only take up to 20 hours a week. There is a limit of earnings for Bank: The trainee may earn up to 450 euros if he or she does a small job

Travel allowance in school education

The salary in education is either very low or nonexistent. As compensation, apprentices can apply for a subsidy for travel expenses for their school education at the employer. This can then take over part or all of the travel costs.
